How to Use Pay-Per-Views like a Pro

If you thought the only way to earn money on Spotlit was through your monthly subscription price, you would be wrong. Yes, setting the right subscription price for your account is important, but there are additional tools to make money on Spotlit and if you don’t make the most of them you could be missing out on extra income. Let’s take a closer look at how to make the most of one of these features: pay-per-view messages or PPVs.

How to use PPVs

A pay-per-view message is exactly what it sounds like: content that you share, via a message that your fans pay to view! You can send PPVs to individual accounts by going to your messages, composing a message to the desired account, attaching your media, and clicking the price tag in the bottom right to set your price.

To send PPVs to all of your fans at once, go to the messaging page and select “new message” and “all subscribers.” Add your message, attach your media, and click the price tag icon to set your price. Click send and it’s a way to all of your subscribers!

Saving your best content for PPVs

Of course, if you send a PPV to all of your subscribers not all of them will open it, like not all of your followers on your free social media will sign up to your Spotlit. Think of your fans like a pyramid – on the bottom, there are your casual Instagram followers. Your casuals are great for the numbers game but they’re not deeply invested in your content. Further up the pyramid are your Spotlit followers, who care about you enough to pay your subscription price. At the top of the pyramid are your Superfans – these people are in love with your content and will invest in you more if you give them the opportunity.

Your most dedicated fans are the ones who will pay to open your PPVs. They’re willing to give more if they feel they’re getting something special. Therefore, it makes sense to save some of your best content for the fans further up the pyramid.

(Strategically) advertise PPVs on your feed

Just throwing PPVs into your followers’ DMs without ceremony may get you some opens and make you some money. But you probably will have a higher success rate if you use your feed to your advantage. The key is to use your posts in the feed to subtly hint to your followers what they’re missing if they’re not opening their PPVs, in a way that doesn’t alienate those who aren’t interested. For example, you could create multiple pieces of content on the same theme and post most of them on your feed. Then, at the end of the post, tell your fans to look out for the remaining content in their DMs. That’s one way to move followers up the pyramid.

Tiered PPVs

Pyramids have tiers, so it makes sense that PPVs do too. You can send tiered PPVs with different levels of content access to appeal to fans with different levels of finances and commitment. For example, low: $5, medium: $10, high: $15. If you keep your fans on your lower-tier happy, hopefully, it won’t be long before they’re ready to move even further up the pyramid.
